GREEN SHOWMAN PROJECTS
At Showman we have had the opportunity to work on many exciting projects which have prioritized sustainability.
WORKFORCE 1 – Staten Island (LEED PLATINUM RATING)
Showman was both the LEED Consultant/Accredited Professional as well as the General Contractor on the job. We were able to advise the architect on specific points, but also were able to implement those points and follow up with the necessary paperwork to secure the LEED rating.
PETER AND THE STARCATCHER
Peter and the Starcatcher and Donyale Werle came to Showman in 2012 to help them move their sustainable scenery to Broadway. Re-vamping the scenery from their off-Broadway production and creating new pieces which were built of re-purposed and upcycled materials, Showman was able to assist Donyale in creating a magical world for Peter Pan. The theatre community agreed when Donyale won the Tony for Best Scenic Design in a Play!
LATE NIGHT WITH JIMMY FALLON
Late night with Jimmy Fallon with designer Ellen Waggett wanted to utilize green materials and techniques. We were able to assist them in sourcing and integrating re-used material, rapidly renewable materials, FSC certified wood, as well as limiting the VOCs in all paint treatments. In 2009, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon was voted as Green Project of the Year by a judging panel at LDI.
Lincoln Center produced Broke-ology in 2010. Donyale Werle was looking to design a set which integrated re-used materials instead of building or buying new materials and having to distress them to give them an older look. Showman took on the challenge of sourcing and procuring these materials to create an incredibly realistic and sustainable set.
